Holiday Card Design Competition 2009

the 2^nd annual ooprint Holiday Card design competition!

Grand prize: $1000
Jury prize: $500

Your greeting card design could make you the winner of over $1000 in prizes!

Submit as many designs as you like by October 20th to be considered. On October 31st, we’ll announce the finalists and offer their holiday card designs for sale on the ooprint websites. Our customers will have until January 15th to purchase your designs. The top-selling card will receive the Grand Prize of a premium boutique from Spreadshirt, and a lifetime blog account from Typepad, and $1000 cash! We’ll also give awards for the Jury Prize and the top 20 finalists, all to be announced on January 20th.

For your design to be considered, it must follow the correct format:
You must submit a PDF file containing 4 separate pages: the front, inside left, inside right, and back of your greeting card. Each page must be sized to exactly 16 cm x 16 cm. You must also include the correct type of text, so that our customers may later personalize their own name, addresses, and messages. You may include fixed text on the first page. But pages 2, 3, and 4 may only include variable text (explain how to do this in Adobe).

Keep in mind; many of our customers are international businesses. So design a card that can appeal to both professionals and individuals, and that can be adapted to different languages and cultures!

The competition

Create the best-selling 2009 Holiday Card!
Use the theme Happy New Year 2009 or Happy Holidays (Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanzaa etc.) to design an original holiday card.
The ooprint creative team will choose the finalist designs to be sold on the ooprint websites.
The winners and finalists will be awarded some fantastic prizes from ooprint and our sponsors Spreadshirt and Typepad!
This competition is open to everyone! There is no age limit or geographic restriction.
You may submit as many designs as you would like in order to have a greater chance at winning!

Designs

Theme

You can create a card with the theme Happy Holidays, or Happy New Year 2009. The style is yours to decide, so be creative! However, remember that our customers range from individuals to international businesses... so design a card that can appeal to many people and professions. After all, our customers will decide the winner!

Internationalisation

ooprint has customers all over the world, who speak different languages. So, it’s important to design your card so that the text can be easily adapted into other countries and cultures. For example, create a multilingual card with “Happy New Year” written in many different languages.

Format

16cm x 16cm folded / 4 sides

File specifications

File format: high resolution PDF, in CMYK color mode (no pantone tones)
Your design must be created to fit the final card size: 16 cm x 16 cm. There is no need to specify trim size or bleed size
Your PDF file must include 4 separate pages, each measuring 16 cm x 16 cm :

Page 1: Front of the card
Page 2: Inside left of the card
Page 3: Inside right of the card
Page 4: Back of the card

Rights

You must own the user rights to any images, illustrations, photos, or any other component of your design.

Texts

Our Holiday Card models feature two types of text:
• Fixed text/ text in image form
• Variable text / text that can be modified by customers when ordering their products (ex: personal message, address, company name etc.)

Your Holiday Card may include text in image form as part of the design (ex: Happy Holidays, Season’s Greetings). However, you do not need to include variable text. If your design is selected as a finalist, the ooprint creative team will add variable text fields on pages 2, 3 and 4 of your design so that our customers can then personalize their texts and order your card.

Deadlines

Your designs must be submitted by midnight on October 20, 2008 to . Please be sure to include your contact information in your submission email: full name, telephone number, email address etc.

The finalists will be announced and their designs put online for sale on October 31, 2008. There can be as many finalists featured as there are good design submissions!

The finalists’ designs will be available for sale online from October 31, 2008 until January 15, 2009. After this date, the finalists’ designs will be removed from sale from the ooprint websites.

The names of the Grand Prize & Jury Prize winners and the top 20 finalists will be announced on January 20, 2009.
